Don't forget to put your clocks forward by one hour on Sunday 25th March at 01:00 for the start of British Summer Time. You will lose an hour in bed but will gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Excellent!
The measure was originally introduced during World War 1 in 1916 to make the maximum use of daylight hours and it has continued ever since. During World War 2 they further advanced the clocks by one hour in the later part of summer.
Today debate rages as to whether this is a good thing and whether we should adopt the same time as Western European countries which is always one hour ahead of current UK time.
